SRH IPL 2025 Retained & Released Players List
After struggling at the bottom for three years straight, Sunrisers Hyderabad surprised everyone in IPL 2024. Thanks to the strong leadership of Pat Cummins and his Australian approach, SRH looked like a very strong team. Their batting, especially from the openers, was amazing. The bowlers supported the team well too.
The only team that gave them a tough fight was Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), but SRH still managed to finish as the runner-up. With this new energy and powerful players, the team is hoping to win their second title in IPL 2025. However, their biggest challenge will be keeping their best players.
SRH has many talented players, including some top international stars. The upcoming season will have a big auction, and teams can only keep 4-5 players, with a limit of two overseas players. This is where it gets tricky for SRH, the champions of 2016. They will need to make some tough decisions to keep their team strong for the next season.
SRH IPL 2025 Retained Players list
Here are four players Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) might keep before the IPL 2025 auction:
Heinrich Klaasen
Heinrich Klaasen from South Africa is one of the strongest hitters in cricket right now. In 2024, he scored 479 runs with an amazing strike rate of 171.07, including four half-centuries.
Klaasen is not only a powerful batsman but also a wicketkeeper, making him valuable in the middle order, where match-winners are hard to find. SRH may want to keep him because strong middle-order players are rare, compared to top-order players.
Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek Sharma had a fantastic season as an opener, smashing the most sixes in the tournament, even with some of the biggest hitters around. His performance earned him a spot on the Indian team, where he hit a T20I century.
Abhishek scored 484 runs with an incredible strike rate of 204.21 and hit 42 sixes. SRH has developed him into a key player, and since he can also bowl, he’s likely to be kept by the team.
Pat Cummins or Travis Head
With the rule allowing only two foreign players to be retained, SRH must choose between Australian captain Pat Cummins or Travis Head. Cummins led the team with great skill and also took 18 wickets, though his economy rate was 9.27. His leadership was crucial for SRH’s success, so he could be retained.
However, since SRH bought Cummins for INR 20.5 crores, they might release him and try to get him again at a lower price during the auction. In that case, they may choose to keep Travis Head, who is in great form. Retaining Head would also keep SRH’s opening pair strong.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar or T Natarajan
SRH will need to pick between two Indian pacers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan. Both have been consistent and helped the team win many games. If SRH can keep five players, they might retain both.
But if they can only keep one, it will be a tough choice. Bhuvneshwar has been with the team since 2014 and holds the record for the most wickets with 157. He’s excellent with the new ball and at the end of the innings.
However, he will be 35 before IPL 2025, and his playing years might be limited. This is where T Natarajan becomes a strong option. He has been with SRH since 2020 and has performed brilliantly. One of these two bowlers will likely be kept by the team.
These are the key players SRH might keep as they prepare for the IPL 2025 auction.
