The Indian Premier League is a cricket tournament that played once every year. It first started in 2008 and has become the biggest cricket event in the world. Many teams have won the title over the years, but two teams, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, have been the most successful.
Both Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have won the IPL championship five times each. Every year, famous players from around the world join this exciting tournament. List of IPL Winners: 2008 to 2024
Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have found the winning formula in the IPL, making them the most successful teams in the tournament’s history. Mumbai Indians, led by Rohit Sharma, have won the title five times. Chennai Super Kings, under the leadership of MS Dhoni, have also lifted the trophy five times.
Kolkata Knight Riders come next, with two wins in 2012 and 2014, thanks to Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy. They also claimed their most recent victory in 2024 under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership. Hyderabad has two titles as well.
Their first win came in 2009 when they were known as Deccan Chargers, with Adam Gilchrist as captain. In 2016, they won again, this time as Sunrisers Hyderabad, led by David Warner.
The first IPL title in 2008 went to Rajasthan Royals, with Shane Warne as the captain. Another memorable victory came in 2022 when Gujarat Titans won the trophy in their debut season, led by Hardik Pandya.

IPL 2008 Winner: RR
The first season of the IPL was like a test run, but it ended up being a huge success for the Indian cricket board. The Rajasthan Royals made the tournament even more special when their captain, Shane Warne, led them to victory.

In the second season of the IPL, another Australian captain led his team to victory. Adam Gilchrist took the Deccan Chargers to their first-ever title.

After coming close in the first season, MS Dhoni finally led Chennai Super Kings to their first IPL title. They performed well in the group stage and made it to the final.
In the final match, CSK defeated Mumbai Indians by 22 runs at DY Patil Stadium to win their first championship. Sachin Tendulkar was awarded the Player of the Tournament for his outstanding play.

Chennai Super Kings were hoping to win their third title in a row, as they reached the IPL final once again. This time, they faced Kolkata Knight Riders, led by Gautam Gambhir. CSK scored 190/3 in the final, but KKR chased it down, scoring 192/5 in 19.4 overs.
It was the highest successful chase in an IPL final. With this win, KKR earned their first-ever IPL title, and Sunil Narine was named Player of the Tournament for his great performance.

After struggling in the first five seasons, Mumbai Indians made a big change by giving the captaincy to Rohit Sharma, and it worked. Rohit led MI to their first-ever IPL title, something no other captain had been able to do.

After a tough 2013 season, Gautam Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders to their second IPL final in 2014. KKR played really well in the group stage and made it to the final against Punjab Kings at Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The journey of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2016 IPL season is often seen as one of the best. It wasn’t because they completely dominated, but because they took advantage of small chances and turned them into big wins.
