It’s been just a few months since Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) put on a spectacular show in the IPL 2024 Final against Sunrisers Hyderabad, clinching their third IPL title. But the excitement for the IPL 2025 season is already building up, with the new season set to start in March 2025 and run through May 2025. Before the teams step onto the field, there’s plenty of action happening off the field as all 10 IPL teams gear up for the much-anticipated IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
The IPL Auction is an important event for teams, giving them a chance to refresh their squads and address any weaknesses from the previous season. There are two types of auctions in the IPL: the mini-auction, where teams can retain as many players as they wish, and the mega auction, where teams can only hold onto a limited number of players, with the rest entering the auction pool.
For the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, teams will reportedly be allowed to keep up to four players. They can either retain a combination of two Indian and two overseas players or three Indian players and one overseas player.
