There are rumors spreading about which players the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might retain for the IPL 2025 season. Fans are buzzing with excitement as news about the top five rumored retentions has come out.
Even though the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasn’t shared the official rules for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction yet, the five-time champions seem ready to hold onto some key players before the auction begins.

The BCCI has not yet confirmed the retention rules for the upcoming IPL 2025 Mega Auction, which is set to be the second in three years. If the old rules are brought back, players who retired from international cricket five years ago could be retained as uncapped players.
This could work in Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) favor, as their legendary captain, MS Dhoni, might qualify as an uncapped player, giving the team an advantage.
MS Dhoni, the iconic wicketkeeper-batter, handed over the CSK captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad before the IPL 2024 season. Although CSK, the 2023 champions, did not make it to the playoffs in 2024, Dhoni still played a vital role in the team, delivering a memorable performance in the lower order.

In the 2022 auction, the rules changed again, allowing teams to keep only four players. They could choose between two combinations: either three Indian players and one foreign player or two Indian and two foreign players.
