How Many Teams Will Compete in IPL 2025?
The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner, and it’s already creating a buzz. With the mega auction approaching, fans and franchises alike are preparing for a lot of changes. Players are being traded, swapped, and released as teams try to build the perfect squad for IPL 2025.
One of the most exciting possibilities for the upcoming season is the change in team captains. Many famous players who have been captains for a long time might be moving to new teams. For instance, there’s talk that Rohit Sharma could be leaving Mumbai Indians and joining Gujarat Titans or Lucknow Super Giants as their captain.
With all these changes, fans are also wondering how many teams will be in IPL 2025. Will the number of teams grow, or will it stay the same?
Will There Be 12 Teams in IPL 2025?
As of now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that IPL 2025 will feature the same 10 teams as IPL 2024. Even though there were discussions between the team owners and the BCCI, no decision has been made to increase the number of teams to 12.
After the meeting, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced that the current format will remain in place for the 2025 season. So, for now, we can expect IPL 2025 to stick with 10 teams, and there is no news about adding more teams.
Teams and Possible Captain Changes for IPL 2025
As of now, several teams are expected to keep their captains from IPL 2024. Hardik Pandya is likely to continue leading Mumbai Indians, Sanju Samson will probably stay with Rajasthan Royals, and Shubman Gill is expected to stay as captain for Gujarat Titans.
However, some teams may be making changes. Royal Challengers Bangalore might choose KL Rahul as their new captain, and there’s speculation that Lucknow Super Giants could bring in Rohit Sharma. These changes will depend on the mega auction and player trades set to take place before the new season.
